Goodbye Solo came to me in an unexpected way. Just as a rain shower can creep across my meadow and delight and surprise me, so did Goodbye Solo. I had no expectations when I put the dvd in to view. But just as a rain shower can captivate a woman so did this film.
The characters are as lush as Christmas morning. But what I loved most about this film was the ending. Afraid there was going to be a typical Hollywood ending with a big pink bow tied at the end and bluebirds chirping merrily, the film ended the way life sometimes ends. Quietly and with dignity. I applaud Mr.Bahrani and his talented cast. This is a small film with a huge message. Live each day as if it is your last. Bravo Mr. Bahrani

Static is probably the most boring freediving event for freedivers, but it still entertains people who have never seen it done. When freedivers do 11min32sec statics like the current world record THEN it gets exciting again for freedivers!

That’s a good point, Lance. I’ve not ever thought of it like that. Music videos do indeed employ a visual style, for lack of any access to “talky” gimmicks. This is refreshing. Now…to find the ones that do it best. I may toss this about in my mind and in my searches to find some worth posting. Thanks for the feedback. Sincerely appreciated. Cheers : )

I agree with what you've said here 100%, Chad. There is much to learn from the films of the silent era, like Metropolis, The Passion of Joan of Arc, and The Gold Rush. Interestingly, MTV and music videos in general have often reached back to silent films for a sense of the visual that works without dialogue (or monologue).
